Head of Technical Operations

Technical Operations plays a central role in ensuring system availability, performance optimization, incident readiness, and seamless alignment between engineering, product, and business operations. As the Head of Technical Operations, you will lead multi-functional technical teams, influence architectural direction, build operational frameworks, and drive large-scale service excellence initiatives. This role requires high technical fluency, operational expertise, and the ability to lead teams through complex environments with clarity and structure.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic direction and operational oversight across cloud services, infrastructure engineering, SRE, platform operations, and systems performance.

  • Establish operating frameworks, reliability standards, and best practices for availability, scalability, and service continuity.

  • Oversee monitoring, observability, incident management, and operational readiness for critical systems.

  • Partner with Engineering, Architecture, Security, and Product teams to align technical roadmaps and platform improvements.

  • Lead automation initiatives to improve efficiency, reduce manual processes, and enhance predictability.

  • Manage vendor relationships, technical contracts, and third-party platform performance.

  • Support long-term capacity planning, cost optimisation, and infrastructure strategy.

  • Guide upgrades, migrations, and system modernisation programmes.

  • Build high-performing Technical Operations teams across multiple specialties, promoting excellence and collaboration.

  • Provide executive-level reporting on operational performance, risks, and technology health.


Job Qualifications and Requirements

  • 12+ years of experience in Technical Operations, Cloud Infrastructure, DevOps, SRE, or Engineering Operations.

  • Experience leading multi-team technical environments in medium-to-large enterprises.

  • Strong understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), monitoring tools, automation frameworks, and distributed systems.

  • Background in operational governance, service reliability, and production support environments.

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced technical degrees or certifications preferred.

  • Demonstrated success in cross-functional technical leadership roles.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical partners.

  • Partner with technology leadership on long-range infrastructure planning and cloud strategy.

  • Support enterprise transformation initiatives related to reliability, scalability, and automation.

  • Provide insight into technology risks, operational gaps, and improvement opportunities.

  • Contribute to portfolio planning sessions, architectural reviews, and executive reporting.

  • Strengthen alignment between operational practices and organisational priorities.


Working Conditions

  • Remote role within the United States with periodic travel for leadership meetings, technical workshops, or on-site reviews.

  • Collaboration across distributed engineering, operations, and product teams.

  • High accountability for uptime, system performance, and service reliability.


Job Function

  • Lead and optimise critical technical operations across cloud, infrastructure, SRE, and systems engineering.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary: $320,000 – $385,000

  • Annual executive performance bonus
